Sharifi is touted as a promising young talent who topped the men's over-105kg competition for snatch, clean and jerk, and total weight during the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Kanazawa , Japan at the end of April, 2008. Rezazadeh is the world record-holder of this category. He won gold at both the 2000 and 2004 Olympics and has been known as "the world's strongest man" ever since. And he has been the gold medalist of the men's over-105kg competition at all world championships since 2006. However, he has been retired from international competition since August 2007 because of an injury that he incurred in a car accident. The Beijing Olympics will miss the big man's presence.

Chen beats out Yang to compete in 48kg
|
In a last minute decision, Chen Xiexia beat out Yang Lian for a chance to compete for China in Women's 48 kilogram Weightlifting at the Beijing Olympics .The Women's 48kg squad was unveiled at the July 25 general assembly of the newly-established 2008 Chinese Sports Delegation. Chen won the gold in the National Championship this April, which added to her competitiveness as a candidate for China 's Olympic squad. Then Chen was injured in the last pre-Games event in July, prompting consideration of Yang as a serious Olympic contender, especially after she broke the world record at that same pre-Games event. A July 25 check-up determined Chen was recovered and ready for competition, so the State Administration of sports chose her to compete in the 48kg weight class for China .

Indonesia strives for its first weightlifting gold medal
|
Indonesia is hopeful that it will win its first weightlifting gold medal at Beijing 2008. However, Indonesia 's Olympic Games weightlifting coach Mulyana is still anxious about their prospects for the Games. Despite the Indonesian national squad dominating the opening day of the National Games' weightlifting competition in East Kalimantan on July 7, Malyana believes that there is still room for improvement. Eko Yuli Irawan, who will probably be a member of Indonesia 's Olympic weightlifting squad, won the gold medal in the men's 56 kg division.“Eko's showing today was below his best. That's not a good sign for his preparations for the Olympic Games," Malyana said Silver medalist at Athens 2004, Lisa Rumbewas dominated the women's 53 kg division. Rumbewas lifted a total of 203 kg, which was 29 kg more than the silver medalist. 85 kg |

China 's Olympic weightlifting team confirmed
|
Ma Wenguang, president of the Chinese Weightlifting Association (CWA) and director of the Weightlifting, Wrestling and Judo Administrative Center under the General Administration of Sports of China (GASC), recently revealed that ahead of the July 23 deadline, all members of the Chinese Olympic weightlifting team have been nominated. The weightlifters' names will not be announced until the entire Chinese delegation to the Games is confirmed.
Most fans already have a good idea of which weightlifters made the cut in every category but the Men's 69kg. A tough decision had to be made to choose two out of three excellent athletes: former Olympic Games champion Shi Zhiyong, who lifted 350kg at the Doha Asian Games, Zhang Guozheng, who has lost some body weight, and young upstart Liao Hui, who has proven his strength by accomplishing a 355kg lift.

WADA President: Send The Clean Athletes to The Olympic Games

It is the responsibility of countries and sports federations to send clean athletes to the Olympic Games, says WADA's President John Fahey in the first of a series of b-roll segments posted on WADA's redesigned online media center. But due to significant efforts including a new world-class laboratory in Beijing , Fahey says he is confident athletes taking steroids or any other performance enhancing drug are more likely to be caught during the Beijing Games—more so than in any other Olympics.
It's remarkable that, In accordance with the IWF Executive Board decision and as it has been previously communicated to all National Federation, ALL OLYMPIC COMPETITORS SHALLARRIVE TO BEIJING 8 (EIGHT) DAYS PRIOR to their respective competition day.

t the abuse of doping.
With regard to the fact, however,
- that the Olympic Games are the event of the International Olympic Committee and come under its jurisdiction,
- that the Olympic Qualification Regulations for the 2008 Beijing Games were approved by the IOC already at the middle of 2006,
- that the above stipulation of the IWF was not included in the approved Qualification Regulation for Weightlifting and no such modification can be made at this late date,
after consulting the IOC, the IWF acknowledges that it will not implement its former decision for Beijing 2008.
At the same time, the countries concerned have the right to return Olympic quota to the IWF, and the IWF very much appreciates if such NOCs , adopting the principles and the spirit of the anti-doping fight, are willing to do so.
The IWF has already determined to include such rule into the Qualification Regulation for the next, the 2012 London Olympic Games.

China Selects; Yang Lian or Chen Xiexia?

China is determined to win the first gold medal of the Beijing Olympic Games. They just aren't sure who should go get it. With only one spot available to the host nation in Women's 48kg Weightlifting , China is facing a tough decision between athletes Yang Lian and Chen Xiexia. Yang grabbed three gold medals in the 1996 World Weightlifting Championships, while Chen impressed decision makers with her remarkable performance two months ago at the National Championships, where she bested Yang. Chinese team officials feel that winning the first Olympic gold medal awarded on Chinese soil would be a big morale boost for the entire Chinese team.

er vigor of women's weightlifting in the world
A statistic research done between 1987 and 2005 shows that the super power of the world women's weightlifting belonged to Asian. In these 17 periods, although the number of Asian women weightlifters was less than the Europeans, statistics show from 1269 medals distributed in snatch, Clean & Jerk and total, 748 medals consist of 341 gold, 226 silver and 181 bronze were accrued to Asians. Hence there is a deep gap between the Asia and the other continents. The lifters of China and Taipe China were on the tops of this medal table in the mentioned years .Surely the Koreans, Indians, Thais and Japanese have had a considerable shares in creating honor for Asia in these years.
