Indonesia strives for its first weightlifting gold medal

trong>

19/07/2008

Indonesia is hopeful that it will win its first weightlifting gold medal at Beijing 2008. However, Indonesia 's Olympic Games weightlifting coach Mulyana is still anxious about their prospects for the Games. Despite the Indonesian national squad dominating the opening day of the National Games' weightlifting competition in East Kalimantan on July 7, Malyana believes that there is still room for improvement. Eko Yuli Irawan, who will probably be a member of Indonesia 's Olympic weightlifting squad, won the gold medal in the men's 56 kg division.“Eko's showing today was below his best. That's not a good sign for his preparations for the Olympic Games," Malyana said Silver medalist at Athens 2004, Lisa Rumbewas dominated the women's 53 kg division. Rumbewas lifted a total of 203 kg, which was 29 kg more than the silver medalist.

The weightlifters' names will not be announced until the entire Chinese delegation to the Games is confirmed.

Most fans already have a good idea of which weightlifters made the cut in every category but the Men's 69kg. A tough decision had to be made to choose two out of three excellent athletes: former Olympic Games champion Shi Zhiyong, who lifted 350kg at the Doha Asian Games, Zhang Guozheng, who has lost some body weight, and young upstart Liao Hui, who has proven his strength by accomplishing a 355kg lift.

WADA President: Send The Clean Athletes to The Olympic Games

It is the responsibility of countries and sports federations to send clean athletes to the Olympic Games, says WADA's President John Fahey in the first of a series of b-roll segments posted on WADA's redesigned online media center. But due to significant efforts including a new world-class laboratory in Beijing , Fahey says he is confident athletes taking steroids or any other performance enhancing drug are more likely to be caught during the Beijing Games—more so than in any other Olympics.

It's remarkable that, In accordance with the IWF Executive Board decision and as it has been previously communicated to all National Federation, ALL OLYMPIC COMPETITORS SHALLARRIVE TO BEIJING 8 (EIGHT) DAYS PRIOR to their respective competition day.

The Vietnam Weightlifting, because of valuable endeavoring and seriousness adopted within the recent years, has achieved a valuable honor. Due to the latest list issued by IWF, Vietnamese have allocated two quotas for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games that one of them belongs to the men and another one belongs to the women. The single women quota was gotten in the Asian Championships held in Kanazawa , Japan . Vietnamese female weightlifters by obtaining six silver medals and 442 points, became the fourth in that Championships. Men's quota allocated to Vietnam in the section of Individual Qualification by IWF. This quota was allocated to Vietnam after investigating of different countries' weightlifters in octamerous weighs. Vietnamese can nominate just one athlete between Hoang Anh tuan and Nguyen Manh Thang the lifters of 56kg. And 62 kg.

Probable Changing in Some Countries quotas in 2008 Beijing Olympic

t the abuse of doping.

With regard to the fact, however,

- that the Olympic Games are the event of the International Olympic Committee and come under its jurisdiction,

- that the Olympic Qualification Regulations for the 2008 Beijing Games were approved by the IOC already at the middle of 2006,

- that the above stipulation of the IWF was not included in the approved Qualification Regulation for Weightlifting and no such modification can be made at this late date,

after consulting the IOC, the IWF acknowledges that it will not implement its former decision for Beijing 2008.

At the same time, the countries concerned have the right to return Olympic quota to the IWF, and the IWF very much appreciates if such NOCs , adopting the principles and the spirit of the anti-doping fight, are willing to do so.

The IWF has already determined to include such rule into the Qualification Regulation for the next, the 2012 London Olympic Games.

25/06/2008

At its recent meeting in Cali , Colombia , the IWF Executive Board put under revision its earlier decision of 11 March 2008, according to which Olympic qualification quota should be withdrawn from countries producing positive doping results between 1 January and August of 2008. That particular measure was intended to underline the IWF?s extremely strong and determined fight againsith 5 new records have been placed on top of the record setters of the world. China is determined to win the first gold medal of the Beijing Olympic Games. They just aren't sure who should go get it. With only one spot available to the host nation in Women's 48kg Weightlifting , China is facing a tough decision between athletes Yang Lian and Chen Xiexia. Yang grabbed three gold medals in the 1996 World Weightlifting Championships, while Chen impressed decision makers with her remarkable performance two months ago at the National Championships, where she bested Yang. Chinese team officials feel that winning the first Olympic gold medal awarded on Chinese soil would be a big morale boost for the entire Chinese team.

In these 17 periods, although the number of Asian women weightlifters was less than the Europeans, statistics show from 1269 medals distributed in snatch, Clean & Jerk and total, 748 medals consist of 341 gold, 226 silver and 181 bronze were accrued to Asians. Hence there is a deep gap between the Asia and the other continents.
