Probable Changing in Some Countries quotas in 2008 Beijing Olympic

At its recent meeting in Cali , Colombia , the IWF Executive Board put under revision its earlier decision of 11 March 2008, according to which Olympic qualification quota should be withdrawn from countries producing positive doping results between 1 January and August of 2008. That particular measure was intended to underline the IWF?s extremely strong and determined fight against the abuse of doping.

With regard to the fact, however,

- that the Olympic Games are the event of the International Olympic Committee and come under its jurisdiction,

- that the Olympic Qualification Regulations for the 2008 Beijing Games were approved by the IOC already at the middle of 2006,

- that the above stipulation of the IWF was not included in the approved Qualification Regulation for Weightlifting and no such modification can be made at this late date,

after consulting the IOC, the IWF acknowledges that it will not implement its former decision for Beijing 2008.

At the same time, the countries concerned have the right to return Olympic quota to the IWF, and the IWF very much appreciates if such NOCs , adopting the principles and the spirit of the anti-doping fight, are willing to do so.

The IWF has already determined to include such rule into the Qualification Regulation for the next, the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Celebrating the 50 th anniversary of the Asian Weightlifting Federation Foundation

AWF dignitaries and high-ranking officials unanimously decide to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of establishment of this great organization. It is planned to make due arrangements and preparations for holding the above ceremony more magnificently and gloriously. Here's a brief statement of the history of organization and foundation of the AWF. Following the establishment of the International Weightlifting Federation in 1905 and combining with rules and legislations at global level as well as developing of National Federations paving the way to form Federation at continental level so as to improve sport of weightlifting worldwide. Under such conception the Asian states set out the primary stage and made Weightlifting Federation be more known in 1958 concomitantly conducted Asian Japanese – Tokyo Championships in addition to Oceanic states. AWF Secretariat relocated to Singapore under the leadership of Sakurai from Japan and Mr.Michael Koay as General Secretary proceeded. Meanwhile the aforesaid Federation shifted to Iran with the prosperous intellectuals such as Mr.Monico Puentevela, the President and Mr. Ali Moradi, Secretary General carrying on the performance thoroughly and excellently. Membership of 44 National Affiliated Federations to AWF

The number of AWF National Affiliated Federations has been added to 44 as Maldives Republic made a request for being a new member of AWF in 2007. Among all the Asian Federations there are some National Federations seem to have been much older than others such as Singapore ,India ,Lebanon, South Korea, Japan and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Supposedly the year of foundation of the above Federations dates back to 7 decades ago. It is worth pointing out that, India is the first Asian country which began affiliating to AWF and hence some other countries were accepted to be subsequent National Affiliated countries to AWF like Myanmar , Philippine, Iran , Japan , Pakistan and so on. Those countries locating in the middle of Asia affiliated to AWF in 1990's increasing the number of National Affiliated countries. The special right and has been allocated to Syria in order to hold and organize the forthcoming 2007 Asian inter-club Championships , according to a decision made by high-ranking dignitaries and officials of the AWF at an important meeting .
Asian inter-club Championships occurs once every year under the AWF observation and control to enhance and test the ability, skill and potential of the Asian lifters and athletes .
The athletes coming from various clubs in youth ,junior and senior section , will have a great opportunity and favorable chance to challenge and fight against their opponents , confirming and displaying their vigor and strength to each other. Before now, all of the participating countries used to take part in the Asian inter-club Championships with assistance and support given from two of their superior and selective team .
