1- Television And Advertising |
1.1 |
The AWF is the exclusive owner of the TV broadcasting, marketing, Internet broadcasting (web casting), post-event production of video recordings and advertising rights and all other multimedia coverage of the Asian Championships and other events organized and controlled by the AWF. |
1.2 |
To obtain these rights or part of these rights, a fee must be paid to the AWF. The amount is decided in consultation by the President and General Secretary. |
1.3 |
Television rights, marketing and sponsorship revenues for Asian Championships are apportioned according to the signed contract between the host Federation / Organizing Committee and the AWF. |
1.4 |
At international tournaments, championships and competitions organized by the AWF, the size of the advertising worn by the athletes or on their clothing must not exceed 500 cm2. At any of its competitions, the AWF may decide on the application of start numbers with its own advertising, which the athletes must wear. At Asian Games, the IOC rules prevail. |

2- Weightlifting Equipment |
2.1 |
At Asian Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth, Regional and other Games, Regional Championship, as well as international tournaments organized by the AWF, only approved barbells, referee light systems, scales, timing clocks may be used. The Executive Board decides conditions of the approval.
a) Barbell: At Asian and Regional Championships, Asian, commonwealth, Regional and other Games as well as international tournaments, only the makes of barbells licensed by the IWF may be used.
Manufacturers applying for, and receiving the IWF license must pay a fee relevant to a given Olympiad. A condition of granting an IWF license is full compliance with the IWF quality regulations - these are contained in an Annex to the IWF & AWF Rules.
For the Asian Games, the Executive Board appoints the make of the barbell from among the IWF licensed companies.
b) Other equipment: referee light system, score boards, timing clocks, scales and platforms must be approved by the AWF and may be selected in agreement with the AWF. |

3- Organisation of Asian Championships, Asian, Commonwealth, Regional And Other Games |
3.1.1 |
Weightlifting competitions at Asian Championships, Asian, commonwealth, Regional and other Games must be organized under AWF supervision and carried out in full conformity with its Constitution, By-Laws and Rules. |
3.1.2 |
Organizing Federations must guarantee unconditional entry to all participants from all eligible AWF affiliated countries. |
3.1.3 |
In Asian Championships, only those athletes whose eligibility is confirmed by the AWF may participate. |
3.2 |
ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS |
3.2.1 |
Junior Men’s and Women’s Asian Championships are held every year. Senior Men’s and Women’s Asian Championships are held every year, except in Asian Games years. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, the Senior and Junior Men’s and Women’s Asian Championships must be held together. |
3.2.2 |
Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded respectively to the first three places for the Snatch, the Clean and Jerk and the Asian Games Total in each of the bodyweight categories. |
3.2.3 |
Applications to organize Asian Championships must be made in writing sixty (60) days prior to the Executive Board meeting which is to decide on the allocations. The AWF Secretariat sends an application form (Questionnaire) upon request to the candidates. The completed Questionnaire must be returned to the AWF Secretariat. |
3.2.4 |
The allocation of the Aorld Championships is decided by vote by the AWF Executive Board. |
3.2.5 |
Following the allocation of the Asian Championships, the AWF and the host Federation conclude an Agreement pertaining to the main obligations and conditions of the organization of the Championships, based on the application questionnaire. |
3.2.6 |
Asian Championships are carried out in not less than eight (7) competition days. |
3.3 |
ASIAN GAMES |
3.3.1 |
At least twenty four (24) months before the opening of the Asian Games and after consultation between the AWF Executive Board, the OCA and the Games Organizing Committee, the AWF shall communicate the following information to the National Federations:
• the program of the competitions;
• the schedule of the competitions;
• the entry conditions for Asian Games competitors. |
3.3.2 |
The Asian Games weightlifting competitions are held in a period of eleven (11) days: ten (10) days of competition and one (1) day of rest after the fifth day of competition. |
3.3.3 |
Asian Games gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded respectively to the first three places for the Olympic Total in each of the bodyweight categories. |
3.3.4 |
The AWF Executive Board appoints two (2) Technical Delegates for the Asian Games. |
3.3.5 |
Six (6) months prior to the Asian Games, the Executive Board appoints the jury members, the referees, the technical controllers and the doctors that will be on duty at the Games, from the list of candidates submitted by the National Federations. None of the appointed officials may be members of their national Olympic team. |
3.4 |
GAMES OTHER THAN ASIAN GAMES |
3.4.1 |
At least two (2) years before the opening of the Games, the AWF must be advised in order to approve the proposed facilities and technical organization. An AWF technical delegate has to make a preliminary inspection. Travel and accommodation expenses are paid by the organizing Federation / committee. |
3.4.2 |
The Regulation of the weightlifting competitions of the Games and its schedule program must be submitted to the AWF for approval before publication. The Regulation must be supplied in English and, additionally, in any other language the organizing committee deems it to be necessary. |
3.4.3 |
The AWF checks all the facilities and approves the jury members and the referees for the weightlifting competitions in consultation with the Commonwealth, Regional Federation concerned and / or the Games organizers. The AWF representative must be present sufficiently in advance before the opening of the Games to ensure that the facilities are adequate and that the AWF Rules are being followed. |
3.4.4 |
The AWF may be represented either by the President, the General Secretary, the Assistant Secretary or by a delegate appointed by the President and the General Secretary in consultation. The AWF representative assumes the position of President of the jury, jury member or Competition Secretary, whichever is considered to be the most appropriate. |
3.4.5 |
The Organizing Committee must pay the travel and accommodation expenses of the AWF delegate at the Games. |
3.4.6 |
Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded respectively to the first three places for the Snatch, the Clean and Jerk and the Asian Games Total in each of the bodyweight categories, unless otherwise specified and arranged between the Organizing Committee and the AWF. |

4- Specific Rules For World Championships |
4.1 |
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - HOST FEDERATION / ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
The host Federation / Organizing Committee: |
4.1.1 |
Offers the participants full accommodation at a daily rate to be fixed and the currency to be used, as well as local transportation, access to the competitions, participation in official meetings, training, closing banquet and other usual technical services. The daily rate must be approved by the AWF, which must see that the services provided are in harmony with the price indicated. |
4.1.2 |
Provides transportation and training facilities for participants at least four (3) days before the beginning of the championships. |
4.1.3 |
Provides free accommodation, during the competitions days plus two (2) days, for up to 35 selected technical officials, (referees, jury members, technical controllers and doctors). The number of technical officials is decided taking in consideration the number of competition days, the number of World Championships organized and other considerations and depends on an agreement between the IWF and the host Federation Organizing committee.
If the IWF Executive Board and Committee meetings are held in conjunction with the Asian Championships, those selected officials who are members of the Board or/and the Committees, free accommodation is provided for the competition days plus four (4) days. To benefit from the above, the technical officials must be present and available for the complete Championships. The participants must pay for additional days. |
4.1.4 |
Guarantees that the prices of accommodation quoted six (6) months prior to the Asian Championships will not increase. |
4.1.5 |
Provides, free of charge, the facilities for the Congress and the meetings of the Executive Board and the Committees (including meeting room, interpreters, technical facilities, coffee, refreshments, etc.). |
4.1.6 |
Provides, free of charge, the technical organisation all pertaining facilities (equipment, hall and rooms with adequate furnishing, technical staff, first aid, refreshments, etc.) for the competitions and training for the World Championships, as required by the relevant IWF & AWF rules. |
4.1.7 |
Takes acceptable comprehensive health / medical / hospital insurance policies for the Championships. |
4.1.8 |
The Chairmen of the IWF Technical and Medical Committees must also be accommodated, free of charge when they are not among the appointed technical officials. |
4.1.9 |
Provides, free of charge, return travel and accommodation for the competition days plus six (6) for the AWF President, the General Secretary and five (5) members of the Secretariat. |
4.1.10 |
Provides return air travel, accommodation and board, free of charge, for an appointed delegate of the A.I.P.S. (Subject of arrangements between the IWF and the organizers). |
4.1.11 |
Provides offices and technical facilities for the operation of the AWF Secretariat, for the meetings and the Asian Championships. |
4.1.12 |
If required, pay full costs for travel and accommodation, for two (2) technical visits by the AWF, prior to the Championships, to evaluate their preparation. |
4.2 |
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - PARTICIPATING FEDERATIONS
The participating Federations: |
4.2.1 |
The participating delegations must accept the accommodation offered by the Organizing Committee, at the cost indicated in the Regulation. The amount must be coordinated by the AWF and must be in harmony with the standard of the services provided. |
4.2.2 |
Pay the host Federation / Organizing Committee an Entry Fee of $ 120 US (one hundred and forty US dollars) for each delegation member. $ 70 (seventy US dollars) of this fee remains with the Organizing Committee and $ 50 (fifty US dollars) is paid to the AWF as part of the Anti-Doping Fund. |
4.2.3 |
The selected technical officials, the AWF President, General Secretary and Secretariat members, the licensed journalists do not have to pay the Entry Fee. The Executive Board or Committee members and the Congress delegates, who only attend their respective meetings, are also exempted from paying the Entry Fee. After the Congress, these persons cannot enjoy the privileges associated with accreditation such as transportation, entry to the competitions and sport facilities and any social event. |
4.2.4 |
National Federations participating in the Asian Championships do so at their own risk. The Federations must undertake full moral and financial responsibility for their delegates regarding their health and in case of accidents or damages. |
4.3 |
ENTRIES FOR THE ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS |
4.3.1 |
Four (4) months before the date set for the Asian Championships, the organizing Federation sends the Asian Championships Regulation to all the AWF affiliated Federations, the Executive Board and the Committee members. |
4.3.2 |
The World Championships Regulation contains the following information:
a) The exact date of the Asian Championships with a detailed program of the competitions and related activities;
b) The competition venue and its access;
c) The accommodation offered and the financial conditions;
d) The press accreditation forms;
e) The preliminary entry and final entry forms and athletes' profiles.
f) Any other pertinent information. |
4.3.3 |
Participants may only be officially entered by their respective affiliated national Federation. A preliminary Entry form, including information on the number of competitors and officials must be returned to the host Federation / Organizing Committee not later than sixty (40) days before the Championships. |
4.3.4 |
The Final Entry form, which includes the names, the date of birth, the category and the best performances of the competitors in the Snatch, Clean and Jerk and Total, with an indication of the reserves, the names of the accompanying officials and their function, the exact arrival and departure information of the delegation must be received by the organizing Federation not later than ten (10) days before the start of the Championships. |
4.3.5 |
At the Congress preceding the Asian Championships, each delegation receives a form (Verification of Final Entries) on which they must confirm the names, the year of birth and the bodyweight categories and Totals of their competitors. When this form is verified, signed and returned, the entries are considered final, i.e. there cannot be any modification for the names and the categories. When, for any reason, a delegation does not attend the Congress, its previously sent Final Entry form is used for the final nomination. Nominations cannot be made by proxy. |
4.3.6 |
The only Totals accepted on the Entry form are the totals achieved by the athletes at any competition on the AWF calendar (Asian Ranking List register) in the period of 18 months prior to the Asian & World Championships, in the category in which they are entered.
A representative of the participating teams, vested with the necessary information on the athlete’s categories, year of birth, valid entry Totals must verify and sign the Final Entry form before entering the AWF Congress (Verification of final entries). Any country missing this opportunity to check its Final Entry form must accept that the AWF, if its results registration shows different, has the right to revise the entry Totals indicated on the forms when making the allocation of lifters into the various groups. No subsequent protest or request for correction is accepted.
For those not registering any such previous Total, the announced Total indicated on the Final Entry form will be accepted, but the load of the starting weights in the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk cannot be lower than 20 kg below the announced Total. The amounts can be increased but under no circumstances can the amounts stated on the competitor’s card be lowered on other lifts. The observation of this rule is the responsibility of the Competition Secretary and/or the Chief Marshal.
Example: An athlete enters a competition with an unverified Total of 200 kg. The sum of the first attempts in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk must not, in any case, be lower than 180 kg (80 – 100 kg, 70 – 110 kg or any other combination). If this rule is not adhered to, the jury can exclude the athlete from the competition. |
4.3.7 |
Group allocation will be determined in accordance with the latest published AWF Ranking Lists or such other official results, by the Competition Secretary or the AWF Official Delegate. |
4.3.8 |
Athletes not listed on the Final Entry form cannot take part in the Championships. |

5- Gender Testing For Women |
5.1 |
To be eligible for participation at Asian Championships, women weightlifters must present a Female Gender Verification certificate issued by the AWF or the OCA. |
5.2 |
To obtain this certificate, the athletes must either:
Undergo gender testing organized by the AWF and the organizing Committee at Asian Championships. The costs involved must be paid by their respective National Federation; or
Present a female gender verification certificate officially issued in her country upon which the IWF Female Gender Verification certificate will be issued. |
5.3 |
The AWF retains the right to carry out gender tests on any participant of the Asian Championships. In this case, the costs of the testing are paid by the AWF. |
5.4 |
Once a woman has passed the gender test, there is no need for her to undergo another one. |

6- Primary Medical Care For Competitors And Delegates |
6.1 |
The Organizing Committees of Asian Championships and other official AWF competitions must provide each competitor and delegate with primary medical care in relation to any illness or injury that may occur.
For this purpose, a doctor with an assistant, if possible, must be stationed at the venue during the competition hours. A medical room must be provided containing the basic important medical equipment, bandages, medicines and the necessary facilities for the examination and initial treatment of the patients.
Throughout the entire period of the Championships, primary medical care must be available at any time to all accredited participants. |
6.2 |
The costs of such primary medical service are borne by the Organizing Committee of these particular Championships in respect only to treatment provided to competitors and the delegates.
If any competitor or delegate has been provided with appropriate health insurance coverage prior to leaving his or her country, the Organising Committee may arrange for reimbursement of any cost incurred for providing such medical services, through their respective National Federation. |
6.3 |
If any doubt exists as to the chronicity of any illness or injury that occurs during a Championship, the appropriate primary medical care must be initially provided and then, if further investigation or treatments are required, they are performed at the discretion of the Organizing Committee doctor. If necessary, the latter can consult with other members of the Organizing Medical Committee and/or the AWF Medical Committee members. |
